GATHER East, New Haven, CT
Project Mx2: Stories is a project created by cellist Samuel DeCaprio to commission five composers based (or recently based) in Connecticut to write musical works for the cello that are inspired by their cultural backgrounds. The title Project Mx2 (or “M times 2”) is a play on the year 2000 utilizing Roman numerals, and is an oblique reference to the fact that all of the composers engaged in this project are professionals in the early stages of their careers. The inspiration for the pieces in this project can be a word, poem, place, event, or something else that helps tell each composer’s personal story.
I am extremely grateful to be a recipient of an Artists Respond Grant through the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, which made this project a possibility.
